How PetBank works
PetBank is a pet care savings and payments platform. The core idea is simple: instead of scrambling to pay vet bills when they arrive, you save a small amount each month into your pet's dedicated savings account — and pay directly from it when the time comes.
PetBank generates a personalised care plan for your pet based on their species, breed, age, and health history. The plan breaks down what care is coming up, what it typically costs, and exactly how much you should be saving monthly to cover it — split across routine care and emergency reserves.
No. PetBank is a savings and payments platform, not a chartered bank. We do not hold deposits in the traditional sense. Your Pet Savings Account funds are managed through our payment infrastructure (Stripe) and held in trust until used for eligible care payments.
PetBank has two types of users:
- Pet owners — anyone who wants to save proactively for their pet's care, follow a veterinary-approved care plan, and pay vets and providers directly from their savings account.
- Providers — vets, groomers, boarders, and other pet care professionals who want to accept PSA payments via Stripe, offer discounts to savings-funded clients, and run targeted offers.
PetBank is available as a web app that works on any browser, plus dedicated companion apps for iOS and Android.
Download the PetBank app from the App Store or Google Play to manage your pet's savings on the go.
Getting set up takes about 5 minutes:
- Create an account at petsavingsbank.com
- Add your pet (species, breed, age, health conditions)
- PetBank generates your pet's care plan and monthly savings target
- Add a payment method and set up your automatic monthly deposit
- Add your vet and other providers to your care team
Your Pet Savings Account
A Pet Savings Account (PSA) is a dedicated savings pool tied to a single pet. Each pet you add gets its own PSA. You fund it with regular monthly deposits and spend from it when you pay a provider through PetBank.
Think of it as an earmarked savings account — separate from your regular finances, purpose-built for your pet's care.
Every PSA has two separate balance pools:
- Routine Care — covers predictable, plannable expenses: wellness exams, vaccines, dental cleanings, food, grooming, flea prevention, and similar recurring costs.
- Emergency Reserve — covers unexpected accidents and illness. Your target is calculated based on your pet's breed risk profile and a typical deductible (usually $750–$1,300). Once you hit the target, emergency deposits pause automatically.
Keeping them separate means your emergency cushion stays intact while you spend from routine funds on day-to-day care.
Your target is generated by the AI care plan engine using your pet's species, breed, age, weight, and any known health conditions. It divides into three streams:
- Routine deposit — monthly amount toward the routine care bucket (e.g. $188/mo)
- Emergency reserve deposit — monthly amount toward the emergency bucket, stops once the target is reached (e.g. $84/mo)
- Insurance premium — recommended monthly insurance spend, paid separately to your chosen carrier (e.g. $48/mo)
If you have multiple pets, your dashboard shows the combined total across all PSAs.
Yes. You can request a withdrawal of your PSA balance at any time from the Banking Center in your owner portal. Withdrawals are processed back to your original payment method.
For security, you'll be asked to re-enter your password before the withdrawal is submitted.
You can enable automatic monthly deposits from the Savings page. PetBank will charge your saved payment method on the same day each month and credit both savings buckets according to your care plan targets.
You can pause, adjust, or cancel auto-deposits at any time. If a payment fails, you'll receive a notification and can retry manually.
We're so sorry for your loss. Any remaining balance in your PSA can be withdrawn back to your payment method — just contact support and we'll process it promptly.
Alternatively, if you have another pet, we can transfer the balance to their PSA. Please reach out to support@petsavingsbank.com and we'll handle it personally.
Veterinary-approved care plans
A care plan is a personalised annual roadmap for your pet's health and wellbeing. It lists every care category relevant to your pet — wellness visits, vaccines, dental, parasite prevention, breed-specific screenings, and more — with expected cost ranges and timing.
Plans are generated by an AI model trained on veterinary care standards. The engine factors in your pet's species, breed, age, weight, and any flagged health conditions. It then calculates your monthly savings target from the total projected spend.
Yes — you can regenerate your care plan at any time from the Care Plan section of the owner portal. Generating a new plan automatically supersedes the current one.
We recommend regenerating whenever your pet has a significant health change, gains or loses weight, or after a major life event like surgery or a new diagnosis.
Care plans are veterinary-approved starting points tailored to your pet's breed, age, and health profile. Your vet's guidance always takes precedence. If something looks wrong or doesn't match your pet's actual needs:
- Check that your pet's profile info (breed, age, weight, health conditions) is accurate and up to date
- Regenerate the plan — minor wording or cost changes may resolve the issue
- Contact support if you believe a specific item is systematically incorrect
Health reviews are periodic check-ins PetBank prompts you to complete — typically on your pet's birthday or after a significant health event. They update your pet's profile and can trigger a refreshed care plan and savings target.
Staying current with health reviews helps keep your savings targets accurate as your pet ages or their needs change.
Paying for care
There are two ways a payment can happen:
- Provider-initiated: Your vet or provider sends you a payment request from their provider portal. You'll receive a notification and can approve it with one tap from your owner dashboard.
- Owner-initiated: You can also send a payment from the Payments section of your portal — select the provider, enter the amount, and confirm.
Payments are routed directly from your PSA to the provider's connected Stripe account.
You can search for registered PetBank providers from the Care Team section of your owner portal. Once you find your vet or groomer, click Add to care team and they'll be notified.
If your provider isn't on PetBank yet, you can invite them directly from the portal. We'll send them an invitation to sign up as a provider — it's free for them to join.
PSA payments are processed through Stripe and typically settle to providers within 1–2 business days, depending on the provider's Stripe Connect payout schedule. Your PSA balance is debited immediately when the payment is approved.
PetBank will charge a 1.5% platform fee on PSA transactions when we launch commercially. This fee sustains the payment infrastructure, AI features, and platform.
The exact math: net to provider = gross − discount − platform fee. Any provider discount is applied first, and the platform fee is calculated on the net amount.
Yes — that's exactly what the emergency reserve bucket is for. As long as the emergency vet is registered as a PetBank provider, you can pay directly from your PSA emergency balance.
If the emergency clinic isn't yet on PetBank, you can pay out of pocket and contact support — we're exploring post-hoc reimbursement workflows for future releases.
Many providers on PetBank choose to offer a discount for PSA-funded payments as an incentive to owners who save proactively. If your provider has set a discount, it's automatically applied when you pay through the platform.
Discounts are set by the provider — PetBank doesn't mandate them. You can see any available discount on the provider's profile in your care team.
Insurance recommendations
No. PetBank is a savings platform, not an insurance company or broker. We don't sell, underwrite, or administer insurance policies.
What we do: the AI care plan includes a personalised insurance recommendation — a short list of carriers ranked by fit for your pet's breed, age, and health profile. These are unbiased suggestions to help you shop; clicking a link takes you directly to the carrier's site.
The AI recommends carriers based on your pet's species, breed, age, and health conditions — matching typical coverage strengths and exclusions against what your specific pet is most likely to need. Recommendations are ranked by fit score, not price or alphabetical order.
PetBank is designed around a three-tool model: routine savings, emergency reserve, and insurance working together. Insurance covers catastrophic events that exceed your emergency reserve. Your PSA covers everything else — the majority of pet healthcare spending.
Using all three tools together gives your pet comprehensive financial protection without over-relying on any single product.
Subscriptions & account management
PetBank is currently free to try. We're in an early demo stage — there are no subscription fees and no transaction fees while we're getting started.
To explore the platform without using a real card, you can use a Stripe test card when adding a payment method. Stripe publishes test card numbers in their official documentation:
Pricing for the full launch will be introduced once we exit the demo stage. We'll give all early users plenty of notice before any charges begin.
Yes. One PetBank subscription covers all your pets. Each pet gets their own PSA, care plan, and insurance recommendation. Your owner dashboard shows a combined view — total savings across all pets, combined monthly target, and a unified care timeline.
You can update your name, email, phone number, and ZIP code from the Account card in Settings. To change your linked payment method, go to the Payment Method card.
To change your password, use the Security card in Settings. Enter your current password, then choose a new one that meets the complexity requirements. Changing your password automatically revokes all other active sessions.
The Security card also shows your Active Sessions — every device currently logged into your account. You can revoke any session individually if you don't recognise it or left yourself logged in somewhere.
You can cancel your PetBank membership at any time from Settings → Danger Zone in the owner portal. You'll need to withdraw or spend your full PSA balance before cancellation — we can't hold balances for inactive accounts.
For your protection, cancellation requires you to re-enter your password before proceeding. This prevents accidental or unauthorised account closure.
Once cancelled, your account and data are deactivated and all active sessions are revoked. If you change your mind, contact support@petsavingsbank.com — we can reactivate your account and restore your care team connections.
On the login screen, click "Forgot password?" and enter your email address. You'll receive a reset link within a few minutes. Check your spam folder if it doesn't arrive.
Your new password must be 8–128 characters and include at least one uppercase letter, one lowercase letter, one digit, and one special character.
If you signed up via Google, you won't have a PetBank password — use the Continue with Google button to log in.
PetBank includes several layers of protection for your account and funds:
Password requirements — Passwords must be 8–128 characters with at least one uppercase letter, one lowercase letter, one digit, and one special character.
Account lockout — After 5 failed login attempts, your account is temporarily locked for 15 minutes to prevent brute-force attacks. It unlocks automatically.
Re-authentication for sensitive actions — Transfers between savings buckets, withdrawals, and account cancellation all require you to re-enter your password before proceeding.
Session management — You can view all devices currently logged into your account from Settings → Security → Active Sessions. Revoke any session you don't recognise.
Encrypted connections — All data is transmitted over HTTPS. Payment processing is handled by Stripe — PetBank never sees or stores your card details.
PetBank at Work
PetBank at Work is an employer-sponsored pet benefits program — think of it as an HSA, but for your employees' pets. Companies fund PetBank subscriptions and/or PSA contributions for their workforce as a differentiated, affordable employee benefit.
Around 70% of US households own pets, and unexpected vet bills are a leading source of financial stress. PetBank at Work directly addresses that.
There are three tiers, mirroring the logic of 401k matching:
- Paw — $9.99/mo per employee. Covers the subscription fee. Every enrolled employee gets free premium access.
- Pack — $25/mo per employee. Subscription + $25 deposited directly into each employee's PSA.
- Pride — $50/mo per employee. Subscription + meaningful monthly PSA funding + priority vet network discounts.
The easiest path is to forward your HR or benefits lead our employer overview deck. Contact support@petsavingsbank.com and we'll send you a one-pager tailored to your company size — or we can reach out to your HR team directly if you prefer.
Employers get a dedicated portal to manage their PetBank program: invite employees, select a contribution tier, view enrollment stats, and manage billing. Monthly contributions are charged in a single consolidated invoice — no per-employee payment complexity.
